What do you think will happen in the next 4 years?

I think we're voting for a lesser of two evils, again. I don't think the housing / economy situation is gonna get better anytime soon. I know as a guy who's about to start a family in the next few years I'm very afraid in my future family's stability no matter what job market I'm in. I'm at a huge cross-roads in my life. I don't know if my current job is gonna pan out. I don't really know what other kind of work to get into, if I want to do the same thing or get into something entirely different. What would you do if faced with this situation?

I did, I cleaned out my total savings ($143.00) and built a box for everything I owned. I stuck a gun in my back pocket, took my Winchester in the aircraft and put it in the overhead baggage compartment of a near empty Northwest Airline 747 flight bound of Asia. But me and my outfit got off at a little airport when they stopped for fuel. I have made a lot of mistakes in my life, but that was "NOT" one of them........


My best advise is: You are going to die......the only vote you get that matters, is what you do with the few days you get to be alive.

Great story and advice. I've gotta find my path and commit, I just haven't found it yet. I'm thinking of a trade school and learn a different trade and see where that leads. I'm not sure as to what yet though.

sorry if it is, I didn't think discussing how the election would effect people good or bad would be a banned political topic. I thought that the ban was to stop people from getting into heated arguments over one candidate or one party over another. If this topic is banned please accept my apologies.

Please explain,as there is NOTHING in my post of any resemblence to politics. The weather, YES......How I changed my life, YES. nothing of the remotely political......so it sure is not a discussion.

Since this is not a political thread.......my advice to you ADEPT would be to not give somebody else the power to control your happiness or success. Discover the life or adventure you want to follow and take the steps that you need to in order to follow it. Like Hope said - we've only got so long before it really doesn't matter.

If you vote for the lesser of two evils, you always get evil. Both major parties have grossly failed our country. Both are big spending, big government parties. I voted for Bob Barr, Libertarian candidate. One of the few out there who wants to restore the government to its constitutional limitations. We don't need the government to act as our parents, individuals are smart enough to make their own decisions.

i've done a lot of different things in different places. I've always felt that I can turn my life into whatever I want to make it. One guiding principle I have is to thoroughly follow all my interests and passions. I don't see anything wrong with doing job a for x number of years and doing something totally different for y number of years. In my experience, the more diverse things you learn/work at, the easier it becomes to find work when you need it because you'll have a wide range of experience.
My other guiding principle is to not get sidetracked into buying huge amounts of stuff or frittering money away on things I don't really need. The less you spend, the less money you have to make, the more time you have to do whatever you enjoy doing.
And - this really works great - try to envision a sort of 5year plan for yourself. What do you really want to do, which things do you love that you definitely want to do? Don't leave what's important to you until retirement age. Pick the top two or three and just start taking a few steps towards them every six months. You can get there this way. Don't let your dreams stay only dreams.

Today my wife, a 50+ year old black woman raised in Detroit city sat in front of our TV with tears running down her face as she listened to a black man give a historical speech. Without me asking she turned to me and said "I grew up during the equal right movement. I remember the race riots. I remember hearing Rev. King had been killed. I remember my father saying we will never be good enough". She turned back to the TV continuing to weep with joy saying I will never forget this day".

Her and I did not agree on who should have won the race. It didn't matter. I rejoiced with her.

I'd tell you the same things my folks told me. The more education the better. Doesn't particularly make you smarter - and certainly not wiser, but when you go looking for jobs - those sheepskins can make all the difference. I was about 30 before I wised up and went back to hit the books.
