Russian olive
I've found a delicous new wild food. Maybe some of you guys know about it? It's call the russian olive, or autumn olive. Originally imported from russia as an ornamental shrub and has escaped into the wild (go figure).
It's considered an invasive species like kudzu. However it's here to stay. They grow here in east TN and I guess many other places. They seem to prefer semi shade as thats usually where I find them.
They have a nice twang to them untill they get ripe which has been all of october. You can find more info at wildman Steve brills website or a web search. Me and the kids love to eat them. Supposedly they have about 10 times the lycopene as tomato's... Anybody else have a wild food they like to harvest and eat???
