New to the forum, just thought I would drop by for an introduction. I live in Atlanta now, after being all over the world with the Marines. I have spent extensive time in woods, mountains, cold weather, deserts etc. However, keeping the survival skillset up to date is difficult. Last weekend I went on a rather light camping trip in N. Georgia, and I was shocked at how rusty I was. Basic fire starting, fishing, cooking etc. seemed like a real task. It was wet, but still, I was displeased.
So I've been looking into ways to retrain myself.
What do you guys that live in the city do to maintain the skills? The only thing I can think of is to do hard core camping trips frequently, and if possible longer trips annually. I would like to build a little hut in the woods to get away and focus on living a weekend with very basic equipment.
