Time to start the fall garden

In this area we are lucky enough to get two gardens per year. The last couple of weeks I been working on my fall garden plants. So far I have maters, cabbage and broccoli plants up and growing. Also green beans, carrots, lettus and summer squash looking good. Two trays of onion seed started too. How many of you are looking at doing a fall or winter garden?

I plan on having a fall garden too, my summer garden has done pretty good so far. I hope to plant alot of the same vegitables as you. I have only had gardens over the last two years but quickly found out how productive God could be if you sow your seed. I feel alot of pride when i sit down at a meal and most of the food on my plate was grown by me. I will do this forever now.

I built a raised garden box out of scrap lumber, and used an old door for the bottom. I have Lettuce, Onions, Carrots, tomatos, green beans, and spinach just starting to come up.
I harvested my in ground garden, and amended the soil with steer manure mixture. I turned it all, and I will planting radishes, corn, (more spinach), lettuce, and bell peppers.

We have just torn down our raised beds. Since we got the tiller on the tractor it is much easier to do with that. My husband appreciates not having to turn it over by hand. Makes it easier to apply all our manure with the bucket too and till in. I am running a little late on planting, should get it in by this weekend. Bought some calves last week that ended up with scours, so I spend the whole week tending babies. Now that they are back up and running I can get back to the garden.

ya, doesn't it suck living in the north? I just planted some carrots and beets, and I might do some spinach. Sometimes we've gone until halloween before a hard freeze, but you're right, sometimes it is mid to late september.

I also direct-seeded my monsoon garden (a little late). Monsoon season started here about mid-July. It brings humidity, and some afternoon downpours, plus lower temps in the evening and morning.

Planted: Amaranth, sunflowers, winter squash, purple string beans, tepary beans.
