Craiglist Gone Bad

This a familiar topic to me, not from Craig's list but from life in general. If you will allow me, I would like to broaden the subject a little, as there is a huge issue underlying this situation. Much of my life has been around justice and accountability and my role in it. It is impossible to ignore or condone threats and actions that are just plain wrong. We often use standards of ethics and moral issues to defend/justify taking action as we see fit.

Luckily I learned some valuable lessons before it got too far out of hand, and didn't risk my future, only by the grace of God. (no this is not a sermon)

It is wise to lower risk whenever possible. It is wise to pay attention to all that is around you. It is wise to forgive, when that is possible. It is wise to practice restraint, and let your words and presence lead your path, with a quiet vengeance that can be left unspoken. It is wise to seek respect out of others, instead of fear, although they will often exist together. You will never change a person's mind or actions with force, you will only raise the stakes, until one is more willing to risk freedom and independence for revenge, than to be the bigger person and let their hell be all their own and not yours.

One of my favorite movies of time that relates the impact of this issue is Alpha Dog, watch it, it is a true story.

Where I'm from they also use it to kill vulnerable hookers... But that's a different story!

Not everyone on the site is scum, and there are some great deals... Just be sure to use your head, and be prepared for ANY eventuality.

I gave this some thought a few years ago. The idea of someone coming to my home a few days later occured to me, and I started doing all my deals at a nearby gas station. However, if someone was able to get past my three dogs before they got a faceful of lead I would be outright shocked!

Unless your dogs are trained they are little more than an alarm. Someone intent on coming inside will be able to deal with them and walk right on in. A lot of folks believe their dogs will stop intruders but that's often not the case. No need to broadcast the how to's but dogs are pretty easy to get around and you don't have to harm them.

Dealing with you may be a different story.

You deal with dogs like you do Rick. You just toss them a few pieces of meat instead of a box of twinkies!

I carried dog treats in the truck with me. You'd be surprised how many Dobermans, Pit Bulls and Ninja Killer Attack Chihuahuas became your best buddy when you toss a few out the truck window to them.
