Shipping Stupid

Ok, so I think I am shipping stupid. I just paid $27 to ship a fixed blade to WV....Isn't UPS Ground the standard cheaper rate? How do you ship stuff?

USPS is the ONLY way to ship. You could have shipped that knife Priority with tracking for probably less than $15. If the package was less than 13 ounces you could have shipped it First Class for about $3.00. Maybe less since it wasn't shipped very far from you.

Looks like I got hit with a delivery area surcharge $5.20 up in the mntns..boonies maybe?

Probably a fuel surcharge. Both UPS and FEDEX charge it but USPS does not. They charge it on every package.

I use USPS Priority mail. Smaller blades fit in the small flat rate boxes ($5.20). With insurance it comes out to about $10. Larger blades go in the medium flat rate boxes, or I just form my own.

Fuel surcharge was listed seperate $1.14...Looks like they reboxed it too for $4.30. the base ground rate was $11.38.

Hey Crash, if you use Click and Ship from USPS then you won't have to pay for the tracking.

CS - They repackaged it? Did you stick it in a tin can and put cellophane tape over it? We used to ship UPS but it's just too darn expensive compared to USPS.

I'll check it out - thanks Rick. Since a few of my knives have gone missing I always insure them and require a signature. If you insure the package for over $200 (I usually insure for $201) a signature is automatically required. It works out about the same as insuring for $100 and paying the few bucks for signature confirmation.

The UPS store charges a lot more for the "convenience". I bought 10 stamps there (@44 cents each), and you think it would have been $4.40. BUt it was over $6.00! I found out the grocery store sells stamps at face value, and no tax. After all, stamps are a form of currency... imagine paying your mortgage with 2,000 stamps!
