Lol! We'll need a new way to keep the well pump from freezing, if it doesn't! I actually started buying them up just in case. I am not impressed with CFL's switched my whole house and some of the bulbd didn't last a year.

If your CFL burned out that quickly, it was probably defective. I have one in my desk lamp that lasted for years. The light is fine, so I don't get the sickly light issue, unless its a brand issue again. Most of the arguments are pretty weak.

However, I completely agree with the toxic issue. I don't see how they can force people to place a toxic element in their home (not to actually discuss the stupidity of our law makers). It truly is getting a bit absurd.

Plus, when they do burn out, makes ya think the house is burning down. They sizzle, then burn and smell like an electrical fire. For IC's I like coolMax and DuraMax brands. Our Home Depot has pallets and pallets of them so I bought a case of 100 and 75 watt. The few places I have CFL are where it is a real PITA to change them out.

I missed out when they changed the shower heads to 2.5gpm and a person cannot take a decent shower...I even tried the Seinfeld bit in getting a farm shower head for animal use hoses.....the politicians even got those changed over. The early ones you could drill out or remove the limiter. Now, they are integral and cannot be drilled or removed. I have even been going to older homes that are empty and ready for destruction for a new highway just to see if any of those shower heads are the older ones... NO LUCK .................YET...but I am getting a ton of crystal & glass door knobs and some stained glass art from the 1920's & 30's. Also grabbed up 6-10" hardwood Crown and 4" base boardings. Have NO clue what I am gonna do with it all LOL

It's kind of funny that the mercury thermostats were pulled off the market for being dangerous (several years ago now) but the only light bulb option the government wants us to have contain mercury.

I did switch my camp over to CFL because I am off grid and they are less work for my generator. My problem is they wouldnt make any real light in the winter until I got the place up to temp. The outside light had to be switched back to a conventional bulb.

Camp, have you looked into LED bulbs? The wattage would be considerably lower than incadescents and you don't get the problem of temperature sensitivity. Would certainly take the load off your generator.
