I've used this one before, but It's a goodie. Life imprisonment, hard labour, sharing a cell with "Jason" The big guy no-one upsets, who is also doing life. A life "bending over" for Jason just may give them a whole new perspective on life, well the floor anyway.

The father of a fallen Marine had sued the small church, saying those protests amounted to targeted harassment and an intentional infliction of emotional distress."

You're right, it is infuriating - but not really unexpected. While what they do sickens me, and I have been part of a line to block their access to a funeral - if the Government puts restrictions on speech it becomes a slippery slope. As you know already - our service members were treated worse than dirt upon returning from Nam. I joined just after Viet Nam and still could not wear my uniform in public without being spit on and called all sorts of vile names. For those that returned from combat, and having endured the mental anguish that comes with it, and then having to endure the crap that they did just sickens me. Enduring daily protests outside my base just for doing my job made me angry. It took quite a few years to let that anger subside. I was not going to give them that kind of power over me.

If we let the asshats like the Westboro idiots turn the Constitution on its ear, then they win. Their belief system is no different than those that are pushing for Sharia Law. When the Chief Justice said:

"Westboro believes that America is morally flawed; many Americans might feel the same about Westboro. Westboro's funeral picketing is certainly hurtful and its contribution to public discourse may be negligible," he said. However, "As a nation we have chosen a different course -- to protect even hurtful speech on public issues to ensure that we do not stifle public debate."

I agree.

This case was very specific and narrow. The protestors did not approach "that close" to the actual funeral. Had they done so, I think the outcome would have been more in line with Justice Alito's dessent.

We certainly do need to protect speech, and I served long enough (as you did) protecting it. So the H**l with them. I still don't like them or what they stand for (as I am sure you don't either). And may a pile of camel fleas infest their beds

Agreed. While I understand and support the decision, I do not like it. Their time to be judged for their actions is coming. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
