synthetic 2 cycle oil

I thought I would mention some 2 cycle oil that I have been using in the chainsaw. It's a 8 oz bottle of amzoil 2 cycle oil. It's formulated to add the 8 oz to 6 gallons of gasoline. I've been adding it to 5 gallons for use with my husquvarna chainsaws. I go through 5 gallons every 2 to 3 months. The mix is rated to be used in any 2 cycle equipment regardless of the mix ratio of that equipment this is due to the synthetic properties. Using this oil has simplified my 2 cycle inventory, one mix for everything.

I use reg mineral oil in the same way.... everything except the snow blower. My plugs and chamber are cleaner, almost instant starts. I use 8oz in 3 gallons, snow blower I still use 2 cycle oil because it is still under warranty.

I use the same oil, but I still mix it 16:1 for my outboard motors. It cuts down on the smoke from the exhaust that I get running the recommended SAE 30 nondetergent oil, but still gives the necessary lubrication. After all, they're almost as old as I am.

I use the Lucas oil in all my 2 strokes (except the snowmachines). I've had great results with it. My theory has always been to pick one brand and stick with it for the life of the machine. It seems like mixing oil is when you get sludge problems. My BIL swears by Amzoil and has never had an issue with his motors either.

If you look at Amzoil, their base is mineral oil. I have been using straight mineral oil since about 1995, machines are clean, I rarely have to change out a plug (if I do, it is my fault due to choke settings). Plus there is less smoke and very reduced spark from the exhaust. The snow blower, since it is still under warranty, I use the reg 2 cycle oil that Toro says to use 32:1 mix. When it comes off warranty, it will go to mineral oil too. I also use mineral oil as a chain lube for the various chain saws.

I have been looking at a premixed fuel/oil mix sold that way, expensive, but has 2 year shelf life.
SIL uses it in all his lawn care equipment.

We have reformulated gas here and rots out the fuel lines every two years or so.
