the past couple of days...

So, today I wasnt planning any boots in the field time, I was catching up on some bookkeeping, trip booking, and other computer stuff. My apprentice was taking care of the dogs and doing kennel stuff...

However, there has been alot of deer activity around the house lately, so when a little buck decided to come to close to the dogyard- my helper couldnt resist....so, since my last post about an hour and half ago until now..we've gutted and loaded a deer...as usual my 2 year old son was involved in it all....

Lol....Here is Wednesday with his grandpaw whom also shot a deer close to the house...is that better!

Just curious as to the regs. Do you need a tag for any that you shoot? Do you have a certain season you have to be in to shoot it? I am no expert, but here in Utah, you can only shoot them in season and have a tag for them. In Texas, there is no season, but you do need a tag. In Utah, tags are limited and given through a lottery type system. In Texas, you just buy a tag, I don't think there is a limit.

Oh yeah...you have to have a state "sportsment" license and then a tag for each species you hunt. If you notice the pic with Gramps- you can plainly see the tag on the antlers... Montana is split into several different regions- then different zones inside the regions- and then every different region and zone has different regulations. Some places a "general elk tag" will allow you to harvest either gender...other areas it may be "spike bull or larger" other areas may be NO ELK Harvest...some places are closed to rifles and only open to shotgun or archery- they give you a big booklet when you get your tags that covers all the rules- you need to know the rules before you go out...some areas its literally a hwy that is boundary- so on one side of the road you could kill a cow elk, and the other side of the road you cant...

Where I live, because we have a large population of ungulates- the general tags are good for any gender or sized elk or deer- using a rifle or whatever weapon you choose.
