I was looking to go out tracking and hopefully see some animals close up (British laws prohibite hunting without a permit and for that atleast at my area you have to be a member of a club which has membership fees)
I was looking at ghille suites to buy when a saw that there quit pricey, the last one i had has been used up and needed bined. I had quite a bit of scrim net that i bought from a warehouse that was closeing and tryed to make my own ghille suit
What i did was roll out a large piece the width of your body and that covers from you head to ankles and cut it, Cut another piece the same way and sew them both together leaveing a bit unsewn at the bottem, Go inside it and where your head touches the top cut a hole with a pir of scissors so yo can get it through bit its still a bit tight, Then cut hole just where your arm leaves your elbow so you can get them out
Now for the top, Wrap a piece of the net around your head so that the ends overlap by about 1 or 2 inches and cut it. Now you need thread (I reccomend a dull colour, green, grey...) and tie the netting together at the too so that the head piece is like a funnel, if you want you can tape up the top part of it.
Okay now at the legs it might be a bit restricting. If so then at the front part cut up the center untill the knees (or higher if you want)
For the arms, measure out the net to the length of your arm untill about the end of your finger tips and then doubel that length and cut the net. Lay your arm out flat on the net and there sould be enough to overlap you whole arm, Cut the width to size and then use thread to join the side bits, The bit that is closed at your hand you can cut open like on a jumper. Do this with the next arm and thats the main part of it done
For the head piece you can tie it to the top part of the suit like a jackets hood if you want or you can leave it seperate
Now for a boreing part. On the Back part of the ghille suit you can (But dont need to) sew another layer on to help hold the vegitation you can add
Now almost dont Stuff grass From The Area You Are Useing The Suit In untill its good a good bunch in it then longer pieces of whatever you want that stick out and thats it. I havent tryed it yet bt it looks quite nice
remember to use cam cream (Or normal shoe polish works, anything to take the shine away, earth is one of the best)
I dont think that its very durabel but im not going to be putting it through alot
Any idea to improve on it ?
