New Regulations?

I told you it would be a quick and bumpy ride. Got to rush the new regs through before the conservatives take the majority in Jan.

We just get one takover out of the way when they start the next. This is scheduled for Sept 14, 2010.

Not to get political (oops- too late!) but I have always thought that owning a registered gun means that the gov't can easily confiscate it when they want to. Or that if they wanted to raise fees and impose monetary penalties for gun ownership, they know exactly where to look.

I do not own any guns. I have never owned a gun, according to the gov't. I shouldn't be on any 'list' anywhere.

I have seen guns sold in certain states where I don't believe they ask for any ID of any sort (shotguns and small caliber pistols). When I'm ready, it will be those guns that I obtain first. Also, I'm pretty sure I could "source" a fully automatic AK47, M16, MAC10, Uzi or similar gang-banger gun in the urban areas around Philly and Camden NJ. No questions asked or IDs required.

I would not risk getting caught with those guns here in NJ, but I could obtain them and take them to TN (the Patron State of Shooting Things), and no one would ever care...or ask about them.

I wonder if any folks are beginning to do the same- stockpile weapons that are off the books?

Down here, just as in many (most?) states, guns are not registered. Private sales require not paperwork - nothing - nada - nil. Just like when you sell a hammer. Both are tools, and both can be used to hurt somebody.

Requiring people to turn in registered guns would be political suicide. I'm betting something like this is at the bottom of most politician's agenda for now.

I don't see the government ever literally coming for anyones guns either, like some gun "enthusiasts" fear. It would be a hard, thankless, sometimes violent job that would never end and ultimately be inneffective. "I'm sorry, officer, that one fell out of the back of the pickup and into the river a couple of years ago. I don't know where it is."

To me the question seems to come down to:

1. More restricitions on future gun sales, ammo, clips, calibers, etc.

2. Federal fees and taxes on registered weapons.

3. State restrictions.

Good post, crash. The UK and Australia where the first two examples that popped into my mind. Next, came the thought of the gun grabbing that happened after Katrina.
