H&R/NEF Barrel Accessory Program

I was looking at Sourdoughs thread on a light weight Handi build.
And as y'all have probably gathered The H&R Handi Rifle is one of my favorites.

As I have been kinda looking at the site to see when the .204 Ruger barrels will be back in production. This was to be my next project.

I was told on the phone by one of their reps, that they were "re-engineering .204 Ruger, changing the twist to accommodate different bullet weights.

So checking today, I am noticing a longer list of "no longer avalible", "Out of stock" etc, as well as notice that says to "call first, before ordering"??????

So if you have ever given it a thought to go this way, seems the program is maybe winding down?

Well that is what happened to my TC TCR, except they had the part of the factory where the TCRs were made burn down. So finding TCR barrels is tough.

H&R has sold out to the "Bean-counters" at Remington Arms Co. and along with DPMS, Marlin, Bushmaster, and others are now part of Remington. So expect them to keep the profitable and dispose of the unprofitable parts. About two weeks ago I had a long and very helpful conversation with H&R, I had about 30 questions about switching out parts and pieces, they were very helpful. I might go ahead and order the "Survivor" butt stock ($62.00) just in case I want one later.

Thanks for the link Hunter63. I just went to their site and discovered they do not make a .45/70 barrel for the Ultra Rifle (that sucks). I thought they did and was planning on sending in my Ultra Rifle for a new barrel.

That's kinda what i was thinking, if you be wanting something, better get it now.

Maybe I'll have to head out to my favorite "toy store' an see if the still have the bull barrel .204 Ruger Handi.

It was the higher buck, with trick thumb hole stock, version, didn't want to drop thaat much cash, was figuring on just getting another barrel for one of mine.

I only picked up one barrel and it took forever to get back from them. I had big plans to get many barrels and be able to use the "same gun" for everything but after the 10 or 11 month wait for the one, I scrapped the idea. I do like my H&R's but I didnt like them having one of mine and not telling me what was going on with it.

I did most of my extra barrels in 2005, turn around was from Feb to April, and that was for 10 barrels.

So, I can't say what happening now.
I was going to pick up a .35 Whelen, but they stopped making them.
They also don't seem to offering the .50 cal muzzleloader any longer, as I did have one in my order, good thing.

Gonna be a sad day.

If I have to pay $62.00 for a "Survivor" Butt Stock, I am thunking maybe just order the "Survivor" .410/.45 Long Colt for only about $180.00 more. And have some extra parts to play with.

If I was younger I would build a "Legal" SBS or SBR on a H&R and pay the $200.00 tax stamp.

I think like that myself, but be aware that it might not be a SB2 reciever, so they won't sell you anything but shotgun barrels, and maybe other hand gun calibers.

That barrel comes with a screw in choke to be used shot, straightens it out.
You take it out for the .45 LC.

Right after I wrote this, I started thinking about my other "Place" Handi, porch gun, (ground hogs, rabbits, yotes etc), and started thinking thta I had brought out my .410/45 LC barrel out here.
The Handi out here is a .223, on a SB2 action, but it has the "Scoped Rifle" high combed stock, so even though the barrel fits thisa one and shoot good, I can't see the open sights with the hign comb stock, gonna have to order a low comb or "shot gun stocK".

Maybe just pick up one ot the "Survivor stocks", gonna have to look it up......................

I carry a H&R handi rifle in 308 win. Have never thought about getting another barrel but now may be the time. Thanks H63 for getting my attention.
