We just had a C-17 crash here on Elmendorf. Wife was recalled to the Hospital and is currently looking up dental records. Not a good sign. Prayers for all those involved. Just 2 days away from the air show too.

CNN) -- An Air Force C-17 cargo plane crashed on a local training mission near Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska on Wednesday, a captain at the base told CNN.
The aircraft, assigned to the 3rd Wing at the base, crashed about 6:14 p.m. local time, Capt. Uriah Orland said.
Four crewmembers were on board. Their conditions are unknown at this time, he said.
First responders are on scene, and a board of officers will investigate the accident.

The military calls every unplanned event a mishap.
Although I'm sure I didn't know anyone onboard, this is a tough one. I was the Army Test Director at Edwards for the C17 in the early 90's. It is a wonderful aircraft. I was there when the first prototype (T1) arrived, followed by the first production model (P1). Unfortunately, I was retired before riding in or jumping from it. RIP crew and my sympathy and prayers for the families.

Terrible, sad news. My heart goes out to the families.
That is very sad and my thoughts and prayers are with the families of those lost.
For just a few seconds, I thought that we were going to have a similar story here on Tuesday night. Around 8:00, we were walking down Thames Street in Newport, R.I., when a military transport came in at a steep bank from over the harbor and flew over us at well under 500'. I've never seen one flying THAT low over a populated area.
Five minutes later, it happened a second time, and it seemed to be flying even lower than the first time. I'm not an expert on aircraft identification, but I'm pretty sure it was a C-130.
It didn't have anything to do with the Quonset Air Show. That was last month.
