Shrink Wrap??

Couldn't find a thread on this but a friend of mine in KY has an excess of handguns, no collector's items just regular users of all types and plans to clean, dry lube and vacuum pack each in freezer bags. He asked my opinion and I didn't have an intelligent answer. Sounds good, too good to be true? How about some pros & cons. He will have a more of a semi-permanent storage in a large safe (not a gun safe) just for this purpose.

sounds like a good plan to me. all or nearly all the air should be gone and the bag being clear the packages can be looked at periodically to make sure no rust is forming.

Coot, this is just opinion, I haven't tried it. I think they vasquened guns for a reason. You can't remove all the moisture and air out of the bag even vacuum packing them. A lot of guys have said they've buried weapons only to find a bucket of rust and I'm sure they tried to ward it off. A couple of things come to mind, though.

I wouldn't put desiccant in with a wooden handled weapon. If the humidity gets low then the desiccant might pull moisture out of the wood and cause it to warp or split.

I'd pack them in something like Inhibitor bags before vacuum sealing.

I have tried the plastic and vaccum treatment and it failed me miserably.

They still use cosmoline for a reason.
