Default Best state to buy BOL w/ chance of getting a CAVE

I've been spending a great deal of time lately thinking about buying property for a BOL. It has occurred to me that property with a small cave would be ideal. I'm not talking Mammoth Cave or Meramec Caverns type, just maybe something small enough to get into and set up a small camp that would be defendable.

I have heard that northern Arkansas has a lot of limestone caves, but I might be heading to the northeast (Upstate NY or western Ct).

Anyone know how you might find these types of properties...other than googling "caves for sale:?

    Just askin'......

How about heading over to our Introduction section and tell us a bit about yourself?

originally posted by rebel:"We have limestone caves. The gangsters and bootleggers would hideout in them. A few years ago some teenagers built a fire in one. The limestone had moisture and when it turned to steam it exploded part of the ceiling down on the youths and killed them ( a survival lesson for anyone at someone else's expense)."

Think I'd steer clear of the limestone caves!

Kentucky has a gazillion caves. Limestone and Karst (porous limestone). Generally, there is some water to deal with, but that could be an asset if it is directed properly... and comes from a clean source. Beginning with Mammoth Cave in the west, the limestone goes east and south. I'd love to live in Kentucky, except for the nauseating local city income tax assessment...

Go to the local CULVERT Co. and buy what ever size cave you want, 10' Dia. or 16' Dia. hire some one to excavate, install culvert. You can camo the opening with local rock and brown mortar, even insulate the outside of the culvert, and install a vent.

yes, I guess it depends on where you are, around here they are solid rock, In Fact, some of the bigger mines had small towns inside them,
