The building industry has crashed over here too. 2 big names went to the wall(no pun intended) last year and it still hasn't picked up. My landlord is a builder, I'm just keeping my fingers crossed he'd rather have my rent every month, than sell the house and have a lump sum!
I think it's probably the same wherever you are, folks are having to tighten their belts and things like house repairs, things like that are probably the first things to be put aside.

The package arrived today. I hope tomorrow I can take a trip to get the things we need. Definately on saturday if not tomorrow. I already know most of the stuff we will be getting for the kids, and if there's enough left, we'll be adding to the food stores, things like flour, grits, rice.. non-perishables.
I really can't thank you guys enough for this gift. You've turned this cynic around and I really hope you guys know how much it helps my family.
THANK YOU WSF AND DOC! From the whole family! We send our love to all of you!

YCC, what are the shoe sizes?

YCC, it just sucks when I get to a thread like this and all the really cool wishes have already been passed on. What the rest of the family already said better than I could, partner, prayers and best wishes are with you and your family.
some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

We got enough seed to plant 2 rounds in the garden. We have a long growing season and usually plant the garden twice each year. Not counting winter season for greens.
I have fertilizer left from last year, so we should be good there. Good soil is a bonus and I'm having it tested to check for nematodes, deficiencies, etc. Only costs $4 at the cooperative extension.

Got soap, mouthwash, toothpaste, etc. hygiene items.

found some shoes on sale $3 per pair. Very nice looking.

big bags of rice, potatoes, grits for dry storage to supplement our frozen food stores. Mom had lots of Mason jars and the kind with the rubber gasket and metal wire hinge like we discussed in another thread.

Stuck the remaining $35 in a safe place for anything we might need otherwise. (that's right. wise spending and bargain hunting got all that for $65!!)

We will be going through clothing that no longer fits this week. I'll list sizes and if any of the members here can use them PLEASE let me know. Of course, the younger boy will be inheriting the older boy clothes, but most of the girl outfits will be available and so will the younger boy clothes. It's not much, but I hope it will in some way repay the kindness my family has recieved. Thank you all SO SO MUCH!! I just can't say THANK YOU enough.
