I travel, and also work at home. I use an employer provided laptop computer. I have always, as a day to day practice have a piece of tape over the camera and the microphone of my laptop (both work and personal). Just a practice I started years ago. According to the following article maybe there is a good reason for doing it! Just something for you to consider. This school alledgedly used it in one case to warn a parent that their son was involved in selling illegal substances from his bedroom , based on their watching him while alledgededly using the cam to locate a stolen laptop (there is no record of what laptop was alledgedly reported stolen).

PHILADELPHIA - February 22, 2010 -- Lawyers for a suburban Philadelphia school district accused of spying on students via their school-issued webcams are due in court Monday.
A federal judge is being asked to stop Lower Merion School District officials from removing any information from the 2,300 laptops issued to high school students.
A lawyer pursuing a potential class-action suit against the district says he needs to preserve evidence on the computers.
The FBI is investigating whether the district broke federal wiretap and computer use laws.
The district says it activated the webcams to find 42 missing student computers. Officials say they have now abandoned the practice.
District lawyer Henry E. Hockeimer Jr. says people should not jump to conclusions about the case.
