Thread: Re-intro!

  1. #1

    Default Re-intro!

I don't think I followed the guidelines for this when I registered so I figured I'd re-do it. Hopefully this will let people know a lil bit more about me.

    Your Approximate Age 40

    Your Gender Male

Your Geographic Location Southeast Michigan about 20 miles west of Detroit.

Your Occupation Currently unemployed! Working toward a science degree majoring in computer information systems. Previously a truck driver, heating and cooling/ refrigeration, plumbing, appliance service and install, general handyman/ repair stuff; roofing, carpentry, drywall, siding, gutters, some electrical and cement work, carpet and upholstery cleaning, auto repair, woodworking/ mainly lawn furniture, decks and some cabinetry,, production assembly, fabricator, overhead crane and forklift operator, shipping and receiving, quality assurance, production team coordinator/ foreman, customer service rep. for auto industry, residential sales, service and installs of heating/ cooling and water treatment systems. Basically, I know a little bit about a lot of different things, but I don't specialize in anything. Haven't found anything that really calls out to me yet.

Your Prior Relevant Training General first aid and CPR training certified, I understand basic emergency procedures. That's the only specific training I've ever recieved unless cub scouts, webelos and boyscouts counts. LOL!

The Nature of Your Prior Experience I've spent a week or two in the wilderness many, many times. Pretty much spend any free time in the wilderness, making stuff, reading books or online learning about the things I like. I feel pretty comfortable with my neck of the woods and feel I could "almost" live out there year round if needed.

Your Level of Experience (novice, intermediate, advanced, expert, instructor, etc.) When I first joined I figured advanced, but now I'd say intermediate. There's a lot more I'd like to learn.

Your Preparedness Planning I have no set preparedness plan. I don't believe in doomsday prophecies, don't live in a flood zone, volcano zone, etc. I don't believe in storing up goods, bomb shelters and such. I feel the only real disaster to strike us locally would be tornado, mass disease, nuclear fallout, government takeover/ martial law, or economic collapse. I'm prepared for tornado, but am not sure what I could do to prepare for the others and would like to learn more and be prepared if possible.

Your Interests and Hobbies family and friends, christian religion, hunting, fishing, gathering, plants, trees, fish, animals, nature in general, wilderness skills, bushcraft/ survival skills, native american/ frontier/ abo history/ society, history and society in general, woodworking, bowling, tropical fish and plants,, computers, internet, mass media and the influence they have on modern society, gardening, farming, homesteading, etc. etc.

Your Membership and Learning Objectives To learn and share what little I know about wilderness living, homesteading?, preparing for disaster, survival, medicine, wild plants and such.

I think that about covers it!

    just kidding. Nice re-intro.

    Welcome home....again.

Nice intro. Lot's of skills to fall back on. I applaud you for going back to school to learn a new "trade". People tend to reach a certain age and feel they are too old to go back to school. Anyone can learn. It's what keeps the old brain lubricated. Good for you!

It took a lot for me to finally decide to go for it. Surprisingly, there are quite a few people my age and older in school with me. Computers are supposedly a hot item and that's where most of the skilled trades and auto folks are going, or the medical field.

As if there wasn't enough competition already. Two years ago when I looked into this option there were many entry level, limited experience IT postions, now most want 5 years experience and a bachelor's. Today was my first day back after the fall semester.

I do feel strange when I get in a class of all 18-25 year olds though. I figure the girls think I must be an old pervert, but that's ok cuz I am. LOL! JK!

    A now single old pervert.
