    Default For the sharpening challenged

I've seen a few members post that they are not good at sharpening their knives. Well I am a someone that has since the age of 12 be able to sharpen things well. However I know of a sharpening system that is idiot proof(pardon the expression.)
Check out this website and watch the videos. Get one and you'll be able to put better than new edges on the knives you own. In fact you can get them more than face saving sharp. I own one and am delighted with it.

Anyone checked into them yet? I told Ron I let you know about it and he was excited about being mention on a wilderness survival/bushcraft forum. He is very passionate about helping people have truly sharp knives and broadheads. I know him from the traditional archery community.

Looks like their basic kit is 79.99. A little pricey to me... Sorry, no interest.

A Spyderco Sharpmaker system can be had for about 30.00 less. (Around 50.00)

A Lansky system can be had for about 50.00 less. (Around 30.00)

When you use one of these and compare it to a lansky you'll immediately see that it's completely worth the money. Tighter tolerances, superior construction, zero slop in the jig aka no wobble, no out of plane movement in either plane. Superior stones and diamond hones are also part of the price difference. Also customer service par excellence is a KME hallmark.

Is it better than my Gatco, yes. But is the price worth it? I don't know, not now anyways. He must make them by hand at that price, though. It doesn't look mass produced.

I am interested, but as already mentioned it is kinda' high. If I could just find a sharpening steel like Schrade/oldtimer/uncle henry had(the chisel shaped one) I could sharpen any blade as well as that. the steel used to cost something like $15. That was the best sharpener I have ever used, I've had the Lansky(yes it does a pretty good job) as well as others, but would throw them ALL away if I had one of those steels. Anybody know where I can find one as I don't think they make them anymore. and a steel like I'm talking about is EASY to pack, a LOT smaller than any "system"
I'm not knocking the system just reminiscing about the good ol' days. It looks to be a good system. Especially as you say for the "Sharpening challenged".

This is what I use to put an edge on a knife I make. I hit it with a 120 grit belt first to remove material. Then I go to my paper wheels. http://www.grizzly.com/products/g5937 I get a scary polished edge with these. For the in the field sharpening I use these Double Sided Diafold with the coarse and fine grits. They work very well and I get'em shaving sharp with but not a sharp as with the wheels. http://www.dmtsharp.com/products/diafold.htm

There are a hundred way to skin a cat and this is just my way.

Those wheels do work BUT they are hardly idiot proof. In fact the have a serious learning curve. The sharpening challenges would blow a gasket trying to learn how to use them.

Yea it took some practice on the wheels to get a hand of it, but the DMT ones a very easy too use.
