Throwing Hawks

I have been spending about an hour a day here lately throwing my Tomahawks. It is something that I really enjoy doing and I am starting to get pretty good at it. Not as good as I would like, but just pretty good.
I am getting to where I can stick them the majority of the time and I am starting to concentrate on my accuracy now. That is where I get frustrated at myself. So if anyone has any pointers, I am all ears.
I am also going to start increasing my distance to the target to give myself a little more challenge. If anyone knows the distance that they throw from at a rendezvous, I would really appreciate it if you could tell me.
I will keep you updated on how my progress goes.

Checked my saved list (small) of rendezvous sites and found nothing on distance. Your best bet may be to google rendezvous and select an event closeby or that sounds interesting, then contact them for the info.

I like to throw things too! I never practice and have no idea of a judged distance. I just like to throw stuff I guess!

Vthompson - FVR does a bunch of throwing. I'll bet that he can point you toward the information you're looking for.

I don't throw but I've been reading a lot about it. I suppose I could deliver a baby, too...if I read a lot about it... or stay at a Holiday Inn. Anyway.

Ten feet is supposed to allow one full rotation of a knife or hawk. Some say 5 1/2 normal paces.

The weight of the hawk should be 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 pounds.

Make a fist and measure the distance between knuckles and elbow. That length should be the overall length of your hawk, including the head.

All the rendezvous I've attended and thrown hawks and knives require one full rotation. Distance does not matter. Those who throw hawks with short handles do have an advantage.

Sometimes for a throw off you may get a set distance or a variation of requirements like; throwning with the opp. arm, one and a half or two rotations, maybe even more.

But don't show off...........LOL.......I once did a knife throw and while the others were throwing one rotation, I threw two rotations. It came down to a throw off, so the judge decided to make it hard, since we were both righty's, we had to throw left handed.

I came in second.
