    Default sledgehammer exercise and flowers

This is something I read about in internet. The huge black guy in the movie The Green Mile did this and says it worked out great, so I did it also and I think it is very beneficial. Got an old tractor tire and put it in my yard and I beat it with a sledgehammer. The villagers think I have gone crazy, but it is a good workout and I don't need to keep busting up stuff and hauling it away. At first I used to flip the tire over a few times as part of workout, but now I made tire into a flower bed and it looks nice and I can still beat on it.

I just read an article about this. The article described it as a "work hardening" exercise that a Ranger unit in Iraq is doing. They "bang " at the tire with a sledge hammer for 20 seconds, rest 20 seconds and continue. They are swearing by it, as it seems to replicate their door busting methods. And the bursts seem to increase their endurance. So keep it up you are onto something

I know it's a bit different than using a sledge hammer on a truck tire but it's similar. Head on up to southeastern Alaska. Stop in and see the guy with the dozer in his front yard and the outhouse with no door in the back......yeah, you know him....he's the one. Ask him for one of his axes. Head out and start chopping. You see, by the time you finish felling enough trees, delimbing them, chopping them into bite size pieces, splitting them, and stacking them......you'll be in good shape. Oh yeah, he says about fifteen cords should do the trick.

I thought about the tire then I figured with my luck I'd get a really springy tire and the first time I hit it the sledge would bounce back and smack me in the head. Then there would be a 911 call, EMTs, transport to an ER where folks would have to check me out....I just thought I'd save them all the trouble and not do it.

I don't think I can find time this summer, putting a new roof on, cut a few trees, spread 13 tons of crushed concrete, 15 tons of gravel with a WV backhoe (shovel), keep 2 hilly acres of grass cut with a push mower, hook up the trailer and cut, haul & split some firewood(maul), climb and top dead branches in a black oak. I relax by ATV mudding, hill climbing and will break a few face guards doing that. Sure glad I am retired and can take it easy, don't really want to beat a tire. Now if I was under 65............

How did we ever find time to do all this stuff when we worked?!

I need to go back to work and rest. I've often wondered when I found time to go to work. No rocking chair on the porch or a nice recliner in front of the TV. They are in place if I ever catch up. Guess those that go early are the lucky ones. Always wondered what it was like to actually LOOK for exercise.
