Deer leg Sinew

Quick Question. Been working with leg sinew from the common WhiteTail deer, using it for bowstrings and tying on fletching and such, and im used to getting an 8 to 10 inch piece of it (from the rear sinew). But a few places seem to get hold of 14 inch pieces of it (almost equivalent to Elk). Is this a normal length, could I get it from a good sized Doe or even a Buck??

Typical whitetail 8 to 10 is good. It all depends on the size of the deer. For wrapping fletching and arrowheads, I use back sinew. You can get back sinew up to 18 plus inches. It's a little thicker and not silky like leg sinew. I don't try to get it that way anyhow.

For backing bows I prefer elk leg sinew to whitetail, but whitetail will due. I don't make trad. strings from it because I hunt in the rain.
