While it is sad that the wolf was hit and killed by a car. I do not agree with attempts to domesticate such beautiful wild animals. Sharing your camp with one....maybe. Bringing it into your home and treating it like a family dog, IMO is wrong. While it may make those taking in the animals feel good, and like they are caring for them (I'm not talking about nurturing an injured or sick animal back to health) I believe it breaks their spirit.

Wolves come from the same lines as "domestic" dogs. The one I have now was an orphaned pup (not sure what happened to mom and his litter mates). He has had the option to return to the wild, but chooses to stay with us and our Akita. He's been with us for 2 1/2 years now and goes everywhere we go. When we need to travel to the lower 48, he stays with a friend of ours on Kodiak Island and he stays "close to home" when he's there as well.

He is an Alpha male, so it's not because he is an Omega. And He and our Akita get along great.

BTW, this is my 3rd. Wolf. First one was a hybrid, but the last two are full-blooded Wolf!

It's a relative question really...what is nice, after all? Normally, wolves are just wolves and they do what they have to, to stay alive. It's our human perception that puts moral implications and value judgements on their actions.

That's the main problem with "domesticated" wolves and wolf-hybrids...we humans bring them into our society and expect them to behave like our best friend. Our friend that we've molded and shaped through selective breeding for thousands of years (and essentially bred the wolf out of)...but, unfortuantly sometimes with a domesticated wolf or a hybrid , the wolf comes out in them and a child or other domesticated animal gets hurt or killed. But, is that the wolves fault, or the person's who asked them to fit into our world?

It's kind of like introducing a pimp to your sister, or inviting a redneck to a cocktail party...
