Transpiration bags work best on the windward side of a mountain where more condensation occurs.
Condensation occurs on the windward side of a mountain because the rising air cools by adiabatic expansion, so the air becomes saturated and the water vapor condenses.
The lee side is dry because the air that has had its moisture squeezed out in going over the mountain warms by compression, so becomes relatively drier.
I've posted this before about using black plastic bags. In a test the black bags had about 1/3 more water in them than the white bags, and about 1/4 more water than the clear bags. Now I need to test Transpiration bags on windward side compared to the leeward side of a mountain. This would make a longer trip from camp, because you would normally want to set up camp on the leeward side of a mountain.
