Thread: How do you add a handle to this blade?

  1. #1

Default How do you add a handle to this blade?

How would you add a handle to this blade? I understand it must be a one piece handle obviously, bottom welded with a pommel?

you could weld it, or thread the tang. threaded tangs can be tightened, welded tangs have to be re-welded when they come loose, I would screw something onto it

Another option could be to drill and then rivet or bolt a handle on.

Notch the shank a bit more, tape the cutting edge to work with.
Take a deer antler of the right length/dia./feel, drill a slot out similar shape as the shank.
Form a finger guard in brass to go over the shank close to the blade.
    mix epoxy.
Fill slot with enough epoxy to just ooze out as you insert the shank into the antler.
Press fit the handle the last few thousants, compress and let dry.

Now find a V notch in a tree, insert handle and wait (oh no wrong post)

Sorry couldn't help myself the voices made me do it

It had passed my mind to epoxy it into a carved handle.

Fit a guard, silver solder, drill a hole thru measured handle, add epoxy, push thru handle, add washer, peen end, shape handle, washer & guard to size after or thread end and either recess and peen end, shape plug & epoxy to fill hole or better yet buy a Scandi for $10.

You know that sticky tape that they put on hockey sticks. I can have a good handle on that puppy in under 2 min.

For my SOG knife that broke, I used a split sapling and fitted the blade in, wrapped the end with sinew, and carved the handle into a more comfortable grip. I also used some Gorilla glue. I would try wielding to if you have the tools and materials. But that "knife" looks odd.
