Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you experience some of the worst that Mother Nature can throw at you. Been watching some of the tornadoes today - please stay safe and check in when you can.

Been watching the weather, seems several waves of storms are heading thru the area I'm planning on going thru on our way home to the north country.

Missed a tornado last week, to the north about 7 miles......and missed the hail that was with it.

Drove thru that area, yesterday....1 mile stretch all the leaves were stripped off the trees for a 5 mile length.
Some damage, but nothing like that storms that hit Texas, and were in Oklahoma.

Big, BIG twister just hit Oklahoma City; just heard it on the radio.

Watching the weather channel....two schools hit, but no news yet......

right now,they have recovered 24 children killed in one of those schools,so very sad.

Honest question; are schools in those areas mandated to have storm shelters? I know a lot of residential areas are severely lacking in storm cellars, but I would hope that schools are mandated to have them installed by now.

I thought about trying to figure out how to provide low cost small storm shelters, moving out there, and starting a business. Every time I see stuff like this I know so many deaths could be avoided if people had a safe place to ride it out, but I also know how much concrete structures can cost.

Last I saw almost 40 people lost their lives with dozens more injured.

My family lives in central Iowa. They have had several warnings and watches over the past few days. They have more tonight as well. So far, things are well for them.

Ugh, one sister lives in the Dallas area where all this starts. My mother in law lived in south central Oklahoma where the red marks are there. Nieces and nephews live in the middle of the state where other red marks are. Mom and dad live in the north eastern part of the state in an airplane hanger. Another sister lives in the very north east corner of the state. Ugh, this system could have taken out the majority of my family! Closest tornado was 8 miles from my sister's house. My parents are supposed to call me back at 10 pm their time when the warning is supposed to be lifted.

Probably not. When I was in school the plan was to sit cross legged in front of a sturdy wall and open your largest sturdiest book and hold it over the back of your heck and head.
I doub't the drill has changed all that much.

I grew up in Muskogee Oklahoma, right in the middle of tornado alley, and have lost a few friends as a result. Prayers to the folks in Moore Oklahoma and I hope they can recover quickly!

What they reported last night,and this morning,was that the children were taken into the basement,where they survived the initial crumbling of the structure,but the water pipes burst,flooding the basement and drowning the children
