Wax on a firearm

I use regular carnauba paste car wax on the blued metal parts (and sometimes wood stocks). I take them down when I clean them, and make sure I apply it to the underside of the barrel in the stock. Works well to help bead moisture on rainy mornings like today. Makes wiping them down when I get home much easier also. I learned this from my Grandfather.
Anyone else do this.

I have one rifle I sure wish someone had used wax on before I got it. It had a haze of rust all over it when I bought it and the resulting fuzzy surface texture. I never bothered to "refinish" it and have used it for 25 years with nothing but the wax between the steel and the elements.

During WW2 both the Germans and the Russians painted their weapons. I once had a Chech Bruno Mauser with the artic trigger guard that still had it's origional black enamel paint job.

Strange as this may sound, never even heard of doing this.......It's shoot some very fine oil, like Rem Oil, on a old scrap of buckskin and give them a wipe.
I would imagine it would help with stuff left in trucks, sheds, rafters....etc.
