Similar to a story here a couple of years ago. There was an apartment complex where the caretaker heard a commotion. He saw a large man threatening to kill a woman as he started to assault her. He grabbed a shotgun from his apartment, ran outside, chased away the attacker, dialed 911, stayed with the woman until police and EMS arrived. Police said that he definitely saved her life.

Apartment complex fired him for confronting somebody on the premises with a firearm. Within a week - several of the tenants cancelled their leases and the caretaker had dozens of job offers (with much better pay).
