This topic has continued under different threads to what I am sure would set some kind of record. There is only one way to settle it. Can a person survive with just a knife? Which knife is the best? Show us what you can do with it and only it. Batoning? If you can build a log cabin that way then do it. Post pictures. I'm not as into knives as most of you but I do see thier usefulness. I am partial to having a saw blade built into my knife. Mainly for being able to shape wood and get a square cut. I will make my point this way. I have a saw blade on most my knives or a saw packed with them. I use this machete with a saw on back of blade to make a fire drill and only this machete. I have since bought a smaller one that could do the same job.

I was able to chop wood flat to make fire board. Tip of blade was used to start hole and saw side of blade to cut groove.

Saw blade was also used on end of bow. Natural cordage I use is more difficult to work with so I sawed a groove in the end of bow and just tie a knot in the cordage to hold it in place.

Hand thing that holds spindle was a small piece of wood sawed and the hole started with tip of blade.

I have a saw blade on a skining knife that I keep with my ultralight gear because of it's light weight which could perform this same task.

I am not like those that would intentionally head off onto the woods with just a knife nor do I get into brand names instead looking to features it has such as a saw blade but for the sake of arguement I am going to use a Swiss Army Soldiers knife that also has a saw blade.

This is a new knife for me that I have not used yet but I have had other Swiss Army knives and after all it is a tool and I have worked with my hands all my life. I will make the claim it is the best survival knife in the world and as time allows I will be using it and posting pictures of what it can do. I see these kinds of debates go on in every topic and I am of the belief it is the hand that holds it that makes all the difference whether it be knives, guns or anything else. I put this challenge out to show us what you can do with just a knife. Are you guys having any of it?
