    Default Full-Automatic, remote Blueberry locator...ACTIVATED

Black Bear Sow with two cubs, another Black bear with one cub, a single Large Black Bear, I assume male; all in one patch in the back yard (Read hill back of cabin) and medium size Brownie just came over the rise, and headed in that direction.

I have no TV, but who cares......

    Better kennel the Dogs.

Do black bears and brown bears avoid each other? (Not a big bear population in NE Florida)

Sounds like great viewing. I don't get that channel here in Chugiak.

In our area black bears, run like hell from Grizzlies. The blackies here go to great lengths to avoid confrontations

One of the big lies that was, and maybe is still told is that Brown/Grizzles will try to kill and eat all the Black Bears they encounter. This is not true. The Big bears of any color will make a short dash after a smaller bear.

Generally the big bears are not fast relative to the smaller bears. Think a 350-375 Pound human trying to catch a 145 pound young human adult.

Now if they do catch them they generally mutilate them, and eat some, or none, or all of the victim.

Generally they don't get to close to each other, HOWEVER you can some times see 10 or 20 of each Black Bears and Grizzly Bears in a huge berry field.

One time out west on the lower Shotgun Mts. just above King Salmon Creek We looked out on about 700 to 800 head of game, it looked like the movies of the Serengeti Range. Only time I ever saw that much game in one small area in Alaska. I often remember that, as there was 30 to 40 bears (Black & Grizzly) all in one small area, with 600 to 700 caribou, and maybe 25 to 35 moose.

That was a long time ago. Anyway the Black bears were feeding right next to the Grizzly Bears, with in 10 or 20 feet sometimes.

So the answer Crash.....is just like it always is with Bears.....You just never know, for sure what they will do. You can make generalities. But never bet the Homestead.....

I would agree, in a one on one encounter. As generally the Grizzly will be much larger than the average Black Bear. However a small Grizzly 200 to 300 pounds will retreat from a Black Bear 200 pounds heavier. And most encounters, if it even come to that are very short. As soon as the smaller bear can, it breaks off and departs.

As a rule bears are both skittish, and curious, and are constantly assessing the situation for the calculated risks.

The Knik is getting over run by city folk. About a month ago I found a black bear sow out in the middle of the flats near the glacier that had been shot and left. I think it was the sow I had been seeing all summer with two new cubs with her. I found no sign of the cubs. There were 2 sets of ATV tracks leading up to her. Boot print all around her. I followed the ATV track back about 200 yards and found a half dozen or so .223 cases laying on the ground. I let the Troopers know but never heard anything about it. Freaking A**wipes with nothing better to do then shoot a sow with cubs.

I wonder if they let Baker-Bob out early. Not likely I think he got 8 consecutive life sentences for killing 28 women on the Knik river. You every see any ghosts up there.
