so the mayan calendar ends on december 21, 2012. alot of the doom and gloomers say its going to be the end of the world. if thats true, then what is the first day on the calender? wouldn't it be the first day of the world. i'd like to know what it is. also did they get a 3 day weekend if a holiday fell on monday or friday?

From the looks of it the Mayan world ended a long time ago. Their calender must have been off by a few days give or take a thousand year or so.

If we consider the first day as when the sun ignited and the last day when the sun blows up, 2012 is the end of an age for mankind and not the end of
    time for mankind.

Maybe the Mayans only had one guy who made calendars and he retired or died or something....never got finished.
some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

Critical events were positvely recorded on the maya calender, i would like to understand more about it. Something to do with the fabric of life, what said how said and our Creators desire to give us the tools we need to live and survive.

The calendar thing was a union gig. They went on strike. With a family of eleven.....what's a fella to do? He took another non-union job and invented hieroglyphic writing.

A lot of end times prophecies these days... Barack Obama as the silver-tongued speaker with ties to the East, Mayan Calendar, Nostradamus, Revelation, etc.

My book says its not for us to know the day or time, and when it does happen, we won't need CNN's pundits to debate it.

22 is worthless. Bust at blackjack.

now, the numbers based on the Mayan calendar might have meaning, but only within the context of a cultural understanding of the Mayans.

then again, maybe the mathematical formula from which the Mayans derived their calendar was simply an imperfect formula. Even our own calendar isn't perfect - its off by a 1/4 day per year.

They were able to predict future events some how, if not the calender some other way.
    mathmatics played a role

September 22 is the day I usually realize that I spent to much money on my ungrateful spoiled rotten daughters birthday gift.

(tapping foot impatiently) What have I told ya'll about MY calendar? Huh? Didn't I tell you there is no world ending events on my calendar? Did everyone forget about Free Traxistan? Well? Did you? There's at least 1000 years of free love, wilderness adventures, and just a whole bunch of stuff. And that's just for starters. Then there's the 2000 years of positivity, the 1500 years of free food, the 15K...no, strike that. I'm not running anywhere. Oh, and what about the 3 years of free gold? Bragg is going to be handing out that worthless shiny so we can use it to put in tequila. We're going to give Gold Tequila a facelift. Just be careful when you tilt the bottle up. We've had some accidents during testing.
