so the mayan calendar ends on december 21, 2012. alot of the doom and gloomers say its going to be the end of the world. if thats true, then what is the first day on the calender? wouldn't it be the first day of the world. i'd like to know what it is. also did they get a 3 day weekend if a holiday fell on monday or friday?

From the looks of it the Mayan world ended a long time ago. Their calender must have been off by a few days give or take a thousand year or so.

If we consider the first day as when the sun ignited and the last day when the sun blows up, 2012 is the end of an age for mankind and not the end of
time for mankind.

A lot of end times prophecies these days... Barack Obama as the silver-tongued speaker with ties to the East, Mayan Calendar, Nostradamus, Revelation, etc.

My book says its not for us to know the day or time, and when it does happen, we won't need CNN's pundits to debate it.

now, the numbers based on the Mayan calendar might have meaning, but only within the context of a cultural understanding of the Mayans.

then again, maybe the mathematical formula from which the Mayans derived their calendar was simply an imperfect formula. Even our own calendar isn't perfect - its off by a 1/4 day per year.
