Ginseng......????
I have no idea what it looked like, but knew Ginseng had a legal harvest season.
I didn't answer because I happened to find this plant this past week-end. The berries were ripe and it was rather plentiful in the area. I had no idea what it was but took some pictures so I could look it up when I got home. You saved me the trouble. Great timing!!!

I can definately tell you,it ain't jelly beans on that plant,I've tasted those berries before....NAAAAASTY!

I know of a couple of places in Northern New York that I can find ginseng... I had forgotten until I saw the pictures. And you're right...thems berries is nasty!!!

A plant known as BUNCH BERRIES. usualy available in late fall.Bland, mushy,almost tastless, (abundance) uncommon, scattered. nice to see thoes again!
I've never heard of Bunch Berries. But here is what it looks like
