Nell, no worries, it's just talk. One needs to know their weakness' and work on them. That's what survival and primitive skills are all about.

Anyone who comes to a site and profess' to be an expert or the best, ahhh, makes ya wonder.

Smokeless - Let me see if I understand this. A few forum members out of 1,934 say that they weren't into sports growing up and you pick that opportunity to ......how did you put it.....despite your skinny, scrawny physique, you had to win at all costs. You then go on to insult forum members because....what.....does it change the fact that you have a skinny, scrawny physique and it makes you feel better to say that? Do you feel that you had or have something to prove? It may be a bit presumptuous of you to think that there are just a bunch of computer geeks and nothing else. I've got a hunch that face to face you may feel a bit differently. You were way off base with that comment.

When all my friends were playing football and hockey, well when I wasn't playing hockey, I was in the woods killing rabbits with my old lemonwood bow or hunting ducks on the river.

While my friends were playing baseball and running track, I was down at the Delaware river, fishing for carp, catfish, eels and swimming with those that were not scared to.

I once passed on a chance at an evening with a very friendly girl in hs because word came in that the blues were running up the beach at seaside.

I spent alot of time in the woods and on the river living a dream.

    Would not change a thing.

I still suck at sports. Given the choice of sitting on my butt and watching sports or walking in the woods, the woods win everytime.

Now, if ya want to get a game of animal ball football or basketball, I'm in. Ya wanna play some hockey, hope ya don't mind a good check. If ya want to play a game of baseball, I'll give ya 100%, just don't block that base............................

FVR - judging from the pics of you tossing knives, I'd say you've got a pretty good throwing motion. Being athletic isn't all about playing organized sports.

Uh, smokeless, what are you looking for here? The medal you didn't get in High School or the chest you never had to pin it on? You wanna insult me have at it! But lay off the Pack! You wanna "cross pawns" with me? I'll mate you in less than 20, I'll bet. The topic here is not how great you were dispite your puny frame, but how unjust the actions of others were & the effect they had on some young people.

I get what you're saying Mtman but you've come to the wrong conclusion. 1) People don't mature at the same rate. Some bloom later than others. If I had the mental fortitude as a teenage that I do as an adult I'd probably have been a lot better at sports. 2) Some folks just don't care about sports. I played with my kids and now my grandkids but never really cared for sports. I played golf and didn't even enjoy it. Just part of the job thing. 3) Nothing wrong with having a great mind and being able to research. It's called detail oriented. Who would you rather have build your house, boat, car, plane....someone detailed oriented or, well, you? 4) Why do you assume that having been good sports somehow makes you better? Being good at baseball doesn't translate well to be a good shot or a good trapper or a good anything in the wild. I don't think football, soccer, basketball, hockey or track translate all that well either. It doesn't matter how fast you were in high school you do slow down when you get older. It's better to out think that bear than try to out run it.

You need to reassess your conclusion and you'll find the simple answer is that folks are all different. I'll bet if we took you out of the school environment you were in and placed you in a different environment you would have sucked at sports. The comparative value is only good when all the variables are the same (I looked that up). Who knows? Perhaps I would have excelled in sports at your school.

I can't get over how some people think sports are so great. I played basketball in school, for three games, then went back to the woods to do what I really liked, games are just that, games. Smokeless, why do you think we whine, I was using a power saw at 13 cutting wood to heat our house, then would go play a game of pick up ball, FOR FUN. I live in the woods, I heat my house with wood, I hunt and fish, I also work as a paramedic. My life is phyiscial, not a game. Alot of the lads and ladys on here are in the same boat, they work hard and live real phyiscal lives, thier willpower is used to stay alive, not play some silly kids game.

smokeless, since your last post...why don't you tell us the sum total of your face to face experience with bears and wildcats. You'd be too busy slipping in your own s*it trying to run away to even know if you were whining or not.
some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

heh. the great mind knows "Bear vs. Man = Bear wins." Duh. bigger - stronger - dense fur - claws - teeth - speed. All that vs. YOU.
I'll favor the great mind over you making the bear "pay like hell" any day.

    Hey Dennis?

I'm just guessing here but I'd have to say, really, really, really bad breath.

Just because someone was good at sports in high school doesn't mean squat after high school. How many jocks from high school do you see that amount to anything after high school? I know the jocks from my high school didn't amount to anything. I think one of them managed to make inmate of the month at the state penn. I played basketball until I broke my knee, and after that the coach didn't even let me finish out the season on the bench. After that I went back to my first loves, kyuki-do karate and spending time outdoors. I agree with riverrat; reality is a lot more important to be good at than a make believe sport.

This has to be a joke.... because its funny azz he11. And I wanna ticket to that fight. You really think you and all your brutish strength (skinny scrawny physique or not) fighting for your life can stand up to a 1000 lbs. or more of bear claws, teeth, strength, and primal fury if it wants to make a smokeless snack out of you? That bear won't feel a thing you do to it, other than get annoyed even more by you.
Come on people this is a joke right.

    tacmedic,
Now I was no jock but I ran cross country, and was a student of Aikido. I turned out alright... well the Army straightened me out. But I agree the big football, baseball, basketball studs didn't end up doing much. Several are in prison, one is disabled from showing off, most have huge beer guts, the big football hero here turned out to be gay (no joke), I arrest one about every three months for drugs, ones got a revolving door ticket as he's a wino in the city, and ones on his fifth wife because his drinking has become so bad. Tried to talk to them but they blow me off. I dunno but being the best at everything got them nowhere, this is not to say all jocks turn out this way we have many in professional sports (but their usually dumb as nails) and just look at Cincinnati's Chris Henry.
