Best Type of Rifle Sling

We've had a lot of the "best" threads so I thought I'd throw this out. For me, the whole purpose of a rifle sling is 1) to keep your hands free and 2) to keep you hands free. If there were a 3) it would be to keep your hands free. I'll admit it's nice to move some weight around on occasion, too. And, yeah, they can help with shooting. Jeeez!

I've always used the old fashion strap sling. I've tried other but I always come back to the basic sling. I have some nylon ones. Some padded (for my shotgun) and some not padded. I even have a couple of leather ones that are probably my favorite.

The one point over the should allows the weapon to hang down and clobbered my legs. Running with a one point is out of the question. At least it was for me. That thing came off pronto.

I don't have a need for a 3 point. Don't know why anyone hunting would but that's just me. I can see where military/law enforcement might want it.

I haven't used a bungee sling. I've talked to some guys that have and they seem to like them. Easy to maneuver.

So...what's your thoughts? What kind do you like and why?

If you buy one BOYT 1 1/4" leather slide adjustable sling, and put 1 1/4" quick release swivels on, you will soon find yourself moving that boyt sling from firearm to firearm, till you buy a second and third BOYT 1 1/4" Leather sling. You can order it direct, but it is not cheaper to do so.

I have a sling(straight leather, and one padded) on my long range guns. By this I mean the ones I would be walking a grreat distance with. The only other one that has a sling is the 22 mag I use manily for varmit and when I traped. I belive if a gun is used for hunting it should be in your hands, not over your back. If you are going long distance then it is nice to be able to rest your arms and put the gun over you shoulder, but for just local hunting I do not use one.

My favorite one that I do have is a padded leather single point sling that my father gave me. It is on my 303 british, which is also my long range hunting rifle. It is easy on the shoulder, does not slip, and feels good.

I have an old Marine Corp leather sling on my .300 mag, and an old assumption sash as sling for my flintlock when I use one.
A sling for any firearm is a personal choice, but there are tons to choose from.
