My dad made an Osage bow that pulls about 60lbs. Good enough to hunt with, although I don't think he has ever taken it hunting.

The grain can be very curvy, but you MUST follow it. I have seen some osage bows where the limbs were quite curvy, but so long as the ends line up it still works.

Those are pretty cool looking bows. I wonder if you could steam them and straighten them, assuming you even wanted to.

this isn't actually true, it's just much safer and allows for a bow with less propensity for limb twist.
