Sadly I must depart this awesome site in a few weeks . I have recently divorced and 2 dogs and what will fit in my vehicle will be relocating to Minnesota. We will be starting from scratch with little money and as of yet no place to go. A survival test if you will, lol I have thoroughly enjoyed this site the people and all the info. And I will return as soon as we get established please do

not delete me I will check in when I am able and will be back on once we get situated. We will be heading out on or before the first of October. So any last minute info in the next few weeks would be outstanding once again I think this is thee best survival site and you all are knowledgeable and friendly.

I'm sorry for your misfortune. The library offers internet access. Once you land in Minnesota get a library card and....."Come On Dooooown!"

Sorry to hear of your troubles. Been there and it's tough. But look on the bright side(I did) there's a whole load of stuff that you may now be able to do that you couldn't before. I went to university at the tender age of 35! There's a positive side to everything and I hope you find it quickly. Good luck and I'm sure you'll do OK.

For whatever it's worth, I'll share a few thoughts with you......

Divorces often tend to create as many problems as they solve - just different types of problems.

If you have kids together, the problems can become nightmares if unless both sides play fair and don't use the kids as pawns. Nobody wins in that game, and the kids ALWAYS loose.

Based on your post, I'm gonna' assume that kids aren't involved. Whether or not that's the case, here's a bit of advice:

1. You are beginning a new life. Move ahead and don't look back. Do the things you have always wanted to do for you. Go back to school and/or explore new job opportunities. Face the future and charge ahead. You’ll be surprised at how much you can accomplish and how good those accomplishments can make you feel.

2. Accept the fact that life isn't fair. Period. Dwelling on lost opportunities and anger and hurt is a complete waste of time and will only get you depressed and hold you back in the future.

3. Divorce can be a financial disaster. After your divorce, you will need time to rebuild your resources. Begin immediately and save as much as you can. Starting over is easier when you realize that you're making progress and putting some cash away. Don't expect miracles overnight. It often takes 10 or more years to financially recover from a divorce.

4. Take a break before you start dating again. I don't care what you think - you're not ready and you won't be for at least 6 months. When you do start dating again, keep it on the light side for a while, and don't go talking about your ex or even begin discussing new committments for a good long time.

5. Don't forget to clean things up. Rewrite your will, change the beneficiaries on your insurance policies, clean up all loose ends, and move on.

6. Keep in touch with old friends, but avoid discussions about your ex. Don't ask about her and don't talk about her if your friend brings her up in conversation. Make it clear, in a nice way, that you have moved on and want to leave your past behind you.

7. Make new friends. Find new hobbies and interests. And always make plans on important dates. Your birthday, her birthday, your anniversary, holidays. Keep busy and active! Staying home and reminiscing about the past is one of the worst things you can do. If you're otherwise going to be alone on a holiday, get involved in a community activity, like serving meals to those less fortunate than you on holidays. It beats being alone.

8. And please don't take offense to this, but stay away from the booze and drugs. There is no question that these temporary escapes will lead to more problems that you can imagine. If you can't sleep, take a five mile walk before bedtime.

9. Remember that you have friends here whenever you need to talk. Stop by once in a while!

wild woman has it right, nothing better than a couple of furry friends to come home to. like was said nothing better than the library card, always helps to go somewhere comfortable, where everyone knows your name(que theme music)

Is why they call us survivalists right ,,, woooooooooohooooooo More worried about losing my spot here then what lies ahead of me.
