Eating insects

Things that started out as a catepillar - nope - ain't eating them. Many are poisonous and I don't know enough to tell if one is not. That's how they survive.

Look at the fur coat on that guy. That's what I was talking about being "hairy". Those things are gigantic 'cause nothing wants to eat 'em. That should be a good clue right there.

i try to stick to the grubs and white larvae, but with moths and butterflys,the ones that are not good to eat taste like stink bugs smell or smell like stink bugs taste "hard to mistake a bad one" the bad ones smell or taste foul

my cousin ate a moth and said it tasted like powdered sugar. at first that surprised me but then i remembered most moths drink a lot of nectar so i suppose it would

I believe it is a polyphemus, but the poor guy was all tatty on the edges. It was quite hairy all over, and I thought about that being less than tasty. I was just curious.
I'd have to be pretty darn hungry to eat it. or maggots.
back to the beetles post, what about locusts. I mean the ones that live in the ground and climb up trees and buzz. they leave empty hulls on the trees when they grow wings. you find these things climbing all over the place in the woods this time of year, and it occurred to me to ask, although i'm a little apprehensive about eating bugs it would be good to know lol

The insects you are talking about are actually cicadas But I have no clue as to their edibility.

Not only edible but quite tasty and a bit of a delicacy around here. When the 17 year ones come out even restaurants get in the act.

Thanks for that link! Actually doesn't sound that bad. You got me thinking about trying some. Dog days are almost over and they'll be going to ground soon. still hear them on hot evenings, but not as much as a few weeks ago.

Grubs,nightcrawlers/redworms, ants, termites, are all edible. Have eaten them before.
(Military survival training) As was mentioned grasshoppers, crickets, edible when roasted. Maggots and fly larve are supposed to be edible and high in protien but???
I guess it depends on how hungry you are.
