Question Options for sling shot rubber?

I have made simple sling shots using bicycle intertubes for the rubber bands but have found that the elasticity of the tubes theses days are not as good as they use to be. Other than surgical tubing, do any of you have a suggestion on a good substitute that can be scrounged up easily?

    Would bungee cords work?

I'm sure bungees would work just fine, that's a good idea. I'm hoping to find something inexpensive and readily available.

I just thought of something! Those heavy duty rubber bands used to hold vegetables together could be used. Though not readily available, I might be able to find a supplier to order them. Just an idea, I still would like to have an option for something that can be obtained without purchasing it. I'm not concerned about the cost, more about the availability in a survival situation. (no stores to purchase from)

    You might try surgical tubing.

Home Depo and Lowe's in the Rope department, you can buy it by the yard or foot or whole roll.

Is that not the same tubing fisherman use for lead wire sinkers, and they sell it at Sportsman's whorehouse. and big fishing supply stores.

The elastic from your socks or other garments ,especialy from a rain jacket or a coat. there is even a rubbreless sling shot, its just a hollow tube with a string shoved down into it, works well with shafts that are hooked by the string.

Thats the only problem I have with slingshots is that one crucial component in making it is almost virtually impossible to find in nature, rubber, but I would guess any elastic material strong enough to propel a rock with enough kinetic energy to take down small game at distances of at least 15 feet. when I was ten I used to make slingshots, using twisted elastic cordage found on some bags. It could expand from about 1 1/2 feet long to about 3 feet with plenty of stretch, I don't know just go by trial by error, test out materials you have and compare them.
