Makes me want to buy solar panels. The way the country is going the environmental zealots will have us all in a severe power shortage. It get so annoyed with their "it takes to long" excuse. It takes to long to drill for oil, it takes to long to build a new nuclear power plant. It will be 3 (or 5, or 10) years until you get the fruit of that. Well... maybe we're trying to avoid shortages in 3, or 5, or 10 years, hmm? Maybe we're thinking about future planning? If we had done these thing, 3, 5, or 10 years ago we wouldn't be in the situation we are now. So lets make sure our situation isn't even worse in the future.
I'm all for alternative forms of energy, I'm all for conservation, and I'm all for more oil, more clean coal, more nuclear, more natural gas.
Natural gas is a big one. We've got tons of natural gas locked up in places we cannot drill, tons of it, like 50-100 years worth easy. It is a clean burning abundant fuel, the problem is, it isn't easy to transport. It can be liquefied, but that isn't an easy or cheap process. So, prices on it are local. This means high prices in the US aren't met by high prices elsewhere. so all those industries that use natural gas (and, many, many, many manufacturing type industries use it), end up at a competitive disadvantage to foreign competitors.
Anyways, unless these politicians get off their asses and stop putting party ahead of country I think we're all screwed and you'd best start planning now, make sure you can provide your own energy if need be.
