My buddy jumped the gun and brought some chicks home before the pen was even started. Then he procrastinated building the pen a leetle too long. They were soon flying around the house pooping on everything. His kindergartener thinks it's hilarious but my buddy is a neat freak and he is going crazy. lol

DD and SIL got into chickens a couple of years ago....I got them a starter coop....waaaaay to small for any more than or 3 birds...so made a big pen.
GS was about three when they first got the chicks, and he was having fun with them till they grew up and got kinda mean.
No he has more of a practical approach and treats them like chickens (lay eggs or you are stew), rather than pets.
