so the definition of a criminal is someone who breaks the law and you want me to believe that somehow more laws make less criminals?

Gee whiz. All that gear. You'd think checking the weather forecast might have given her a heads up on conditions. Sad story but Mother Nature doesn't take prisoners.

She was born in Siberi, so she knew what to do..and with all he experience, she knew what to bring and what to do, unless something out of the ordinary happened...it jsut happens..nature can beautiful, it can also be cruel!

I've seen an interesting discussion on this elsewhere. Some speculate that with her experience level, and based on many of her other adventures that she has undertaken that this may have been some sort of attempt for a super adrenaline junkie. It's hard to imagine that she did not know the risks, but as one person said - for adrenaline junkies - the bigger the risk, the better the high.

That line of reasoning sort of made sense to me. I suppose that her husband was her enabler if that is true.

Default Use common sense, have fun, you die sooner or later

At minus 30F and 100mph winds there is little room for error, regardless of your gear and experience.

Several years ago some very good friends and neighbors of mine died while hiking/mountain climbing well above the tree line in Colorado. She had been the in-home daycare for both of our daughters when they were young and he was a local university professor. Basically a strong weather front came in quickly, caused a landslide and buried their tent one night and killed them. Their son's who we had known for many years recently sold their house in the neighborhood which our daughters sorta grew up in when they were toddlers. Very sad, put little room for error in extreme wilderness areas. This couple and entire family that mountain climbed together were NOT what I would consider to be adrenaline junkies. Bad things just happen. Far more people are killed by firearm accidents or violence, and auto accidents; sit on your sofa after work all the time and heart disease, cancer or diabetes will shorten your life most likely.

I call it the three Fs, AKA the fickle fingers of fate. Sometimes it doesn't matter, when your time is up, it's up.

Abnormally nice weather can cause surprises as well . A U.S. Marine has had part of one leg amputated after being bitten by a good sized Diamondback Rattlesnake twelve days ago while hiking in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife refuge. My wife and I often hike there on warmer winter days thinking that the snakes are dug in deep enough to not realize how nice it is. We'll be wearing taller boots in the future.

It's so cold...how cold is it?....It's so cold....

I chipped a tooth eating soup.
Grandpa's teeth are chattering...in the glass.
We had to chop up the piano for firewood. We only got two chords.
When we milk the cows we get ice cream.
When we parked the sled we either had to plug in the dogs or leaving them running.

Didn't get cold enough this time. It's got to get below 40 degrees for a couple days to get the iguanas and knight anoles a raining down. LOL

We got below 40 (39) for about 1 hour. Two brutal winter days where the high didn't quite hit 70. Just goes to show you how tough we south Floridians are. Jackets and flip flops baby, jackets and flip flops.

Seriously, I had a friend wearing a skully, a hoody, shorts, and flip flops with socks. I asked WTF are you wearing socks and flips flops. He says, "Its cold!". Lots, of crocs and socks. And the women always put on their Boots if the temp is going to be below 70.
