Default What's a good natural cordage in the woods

I was making a...shelter(?) can't think of a better word, but anyway, I was making it in the woods, and I used all pine tree wood to make it. I skinned the pieces of pine before I used them to make a wall, and I used the skinned pieces to tie the logs together. They worked pretty good for keeping the walls tight together, but I was just wondering if there was something better for using to tie stuff that you can get right from the forest.

Nice link. Down in my neck of the woods palm fronds work pretty well too.

Inner hickory bark if it's available in your neck of the woods. It can be easily cut into small strips, soaked in water it will last many days and it's easy to work with plus when dry it has to be cut off whatever you tied. It turns rock hard when dry. Strips can also and in this part of the country as chair seats and backs by old timers. Can be used as a dye and nuts are good for eating & flavoring food. Any fibers from other sources woven together will hold better if you roll cordage in your hands or with your foot to round it. It also helps a rope splice.

dogbane is very strong, about as good as hemp without the nasty government retaliation. Stinging nettle is great too, though you'll need to take care of the stingers first

Black Spruce root is excellent, the roots grow very near the surface and are therefore easy to collect. the only drawback is that Black spruce grows in swamp, muskeg, and wet north facing slopes. This means you may have to get a little wet to collect it.

I wish that I knew the plants in my area batter. We do have a few Hickory trees though. Last night I got off the forum and tryed to make some cordage from milkweed. I read about it on the link that Rick gave me. I wasn't too good at it, but I'll practice some more.
