    Cool Remembering Pearl Harbor.

    Today we remember Pearl Harbor.

It was on this day that we were brought into WWII by the Sneak attack on Honolulu. Many Americans died that day, and many were sailors aboard battleships. We salute those who fought and died on this day....

+1, Sarge. It was one of those defining moments in American History and a horrible tragedy.

Indeed. As Rick pointed out this event had such an impact on the world.

Thanks for the timely reminder Sarge! A great day to research my Grandfathers career in the Air Corps.

Here is a link to "Stormbringer's" site relating the statistics of military members killed and damaged ships and planes on that day.

Interesting information regarding the establishment of the memorial at the USS Arizona site.

I used to pass the Arizona and Memorial every day on the way to work while in Pearl. My office was on Ford Island. There is something very somber and special about that area.

Thanks Sarge for starting the thread. I believe it is very important to continually bear in mind the costs to build and keep this country. Pearl Harbor is definitely an event to always remember.

I thank all vets, from all services and times, for their service and sacrifice. Remembrance for all who have passed, gratitude to those who have served, and a salute for all those still keeping watch.

My late Father, who fought in that great war, defending the Malay Peninsular (Malaya) against the Japanese Occupation, always told me stories about the attack on Pearl Harbor.
He would also relate how he joined the Kempatei Jap Police (to avoid from being sent to the Death Railway at River Kwai) when we the Japs occupied Malaya just to get info and food for the people. He would work as guard guarding the rice on the train, and would throw out sacks of rice from time to time so that the locals can get some food. Tapioca and Sweet Potatoes were our alternative food at that time.
My late Mum too, would often tell me stories about the Jap Occupation....We still have my father's parang which he used to fight at close quarters.
