missing readily available 22 lr

There are times that I miss readily available 22lr. I was rearranging some of my junk and came across this 22lr slide/conversion for a 1911 colt. It's been many years since I've used it much. Rumour has it that there are much nicer units available these days. I've been out of the gun game for awhile, any thoughts on this? I hear rumblings that some guns are made out of plastic these days too LOL.

my best guess is mid to early 1950s. The colt on the left is a earlier model, the Remington on the right is ww2

So it fits both?....or just the Colt?

I've only ever had it on the Colt but the Remington is built identical so it should fit the Remington.

Guess that show that ideas have been around for a long time....It
is remarkable to me.... that even back then they were thinking....duel use...or how can I shoot my 1911 cheap?....and now the .45 are easier to get tan the .22 LOL

Ruger .22/45 was supposed to have the feel and grip of a 1911 for that reason.

That is the old "floating chamber" Service Ace .22lr conversion made by the Colt factory.

It gave enough recoil impulse to power the pistol without using a different recoil spring.

The recoil was supposed to be about equal to the standard .45acp cartridge.

That kit, with the box, is about as valuable as a new Colt made 1911 if my memory serves me correctly.

Thanks for the link, it's interesting. According to the link the colt on the left was made in 1918. I still have a tad bit of 22 lr and may put the slide on and get back to shooting it.
