And if there is a post like this "once a week", that could mean that there are 52 people each year that turn to this forum to meet people with similar interests. To me, that seems like a fairly good amount of people with a common interest. It may not be as many as people who search this forum for information about "prepping", but it is still a decent amount. And don't forget that while to you "running into the wild" may seem crazy, there are plenty of people who think your interests are just as insane.
    Welcome. Thanks for your service.

While this may only be your second forum - it really doesn't need to be any different than meeting a new group in person for the first time. You wouldn't approach a total group of strangers at the local supermarket and, without any introduction ask them to join you on a journey to x, y or z.

Thank you for your service. As far as I can tell no has said "You are crazy for wanting to run off in the wilderness" except you, twice. Actually there are some folks here who have already done that. AS well as folks who do that type of thing once or twice a year. Several folks took exception to your methodology but again we see a lot of folks who just kind of do a hit run here for one reason or another. Also several folks take it real serious when you ask questions, well at least I know I do, and devote some time and effort into responses. You are right though, no one here is really forced to read or reply to a post they are not interested in. We, or rather, I have learned that it works better if we understand exactly what it is you are looking for here. If what you are hoping to do is find a couple of "likley prospects" here you may actually have some chance but again this is a kind of unique setting. Think of it as if you are walking into a small bar in a back street looking to find information out about some of the local points of interest.

I am not real interested in the Amazon myself but I can sure see the allure. Particularly if you have been down there and feel like you can adapt. I guess that you speak some form or dialect of Spanish that is usable there. Is all the land "owned" by each government? Will you have to buy land? What part of the river basin are you thinking about? I have spoken with some people that lived in Manaus for a couple of years (Missionaries) and they had some pretty amazing adventures just living in town. Their command of the Spanish/Mexican language used in Panama(quite good) did not help with the local native groups at all. I got the impression that the local government could be pretty unfriendly from them. Will you be able to purchase everything you will need locally or are you planning on taking your stuff with you? I would really like to hear more about your plan if you can to share.

again thank you for your service and I am glad you found us. Hope you do well.

I respect your opinion, so please respect mine.
Maybe "idiot" was the wrong choice of word and if you were offended I appologize. As Rick was saying, it seems almost daily that someone comes on here with no introduction and 1 or 2 posts and wants to know where they can go live in the wilderness, what gear they will need, what's the best this or that, and expect us to give them thorough and honest answers with no idea who we are dealing with. I appreciate that you have military training, which is more than I can say for most of the " I'm running away from the world" posts we get on here. Most of the time it's kids right out of high school with no training and no clue, and your not talking about short term wilderness survival here, your talking about long term wilderness living, there is a huge difference.
