As you know I have talked about having a camp in the woods where I take my granddaughter to teach her about camping so this weekend she decided she wanted to spend the night at the camp. So Saturday afternoon we loaded up everything but the kitchen sink to go about 200 yards from the house to camp. We ate dinner of hotdogs, baked beans and cherry cobbler. Later we had s'mores. Now her dad and granddaddy came to eat supper but they left about 8 o'clock to go home. We piddled with the campfire and sat around and talked until about 9 when she decided it was time to go to bed. So I figured this would last maybe until 10 since we each had a hammock to sleep in and not a tent together. She asked me a couple questions and then it got very quiet. She and her doll babies were fast asleep. Yes we had to take 2 doll babies camping too. I got up a couple times and kept the fire burning so we would have some warmth for morning and I could cook breakfast. I got up about 5:30 as it was just getting a little light and figured as soon as daylight hit she would be up and going. Boy was I wrong she was still asleep at 7:30.
I made my breakfast drank some tea, tore down most of the camp as it looked like it might rain and I did not want everything getting wet since it was dry to that point. Finally I even took the tarp off of her tent and she was still sleeping. Any other time that much noise would have had her up and going. So I had to wake her up to eat her breakfast while I put her hammock away. We then packed up a load on the 4 wheeler to head back to the house. It took 3 trips with the 4 wheeler to get everything back to the house and then I had to put everything away. AS we sat down to rest she said that now when ever she comes she wants to camp. I think I have awakened a monster.
Actually I am so glad she likes to get out in the woods and have some fun camping. Granted we were not survival camping as that will be taught in time but right now it is a matter of getting out and realizing that being outside without a TV and all those modern conviences is still a lot of fun. I just hope we do not have to take quite so many things in the future. So I guess I just might get in a lot of camping this summer.
