Has anyone tried the Pocket Cooker

Has anyone tried the Pocket Cooker that Backwoods Magazine sells? Seems by the weight that the pot comes with it, but not sure.

The pocket cooker weighs 21 ounces, which includes the carrying
case with a belt loop. When folded for carrying it is
4" wide by 6-1/2" inches long and 1-1/2" deep.

I tried that and cooked my pocket! Actually, I've never used it.

Looks kinda like a "Sterno Stove" redone a bit. Me thinks one could do the same thing with a Sterno Stove, but i'm only guessing.

It does look like it would function about the same as a sterno stove. Sure hope they don't catch the artificial turf on fire in that pic.

You mean like the silk leaves and the plastic tinder? I just can't imagine what kind of fire you could build in there to cook or even boil water in that pot?

those are a waste of money heres an idea tie an old coffe can with holes in the top and bottom to your belt same thing... ish

I made one of those coffee can stoves based on the design here: http://site283.webhost4life.com/afms...pact-stove.htm

In some very limited trials in the driveway it seemed to work reasonably well. Doesn't fold as flat as the stove mentioned in this post but it fits in the pot.

For short trips I'm happy with my penny alcohol stove. Yeah you have to carry fuel but not much. I've stuck that in my day pack to be able to have a hot lunch (oatmeal) on a day trip.

I carry (in my pack) an Esbit stove with the Esbit fuel tabs. They're great for a quick cup of coffee, any time any place.

And he does mean quick. Esbit fuel will boil water in a heart beat!

I like my little esbit stove (and fuel). If you run out of fuel, it still makes a great pot stand.

And it has 2 positions, one for your canteen/Nalgene metal cup, and the other for something bigger. I always carry either my 7" or 9" SS plate in my pack. Those SS plates are light weight and cheap to replace, and cook great.

neat. my friend just found at a second hand store in northern vt a personal hibachi. looks like a 4 inch tall cast iron square sided funnel, with a wooden handle and a grate on top, and even a rotating type vent on the side. just pop in a few coals or charcoals, maybe even a smaller can of sterno , and throw a chunk of meat or a cuppa on top, and good to go.

The Esbit stove folds up to 3 in. x 4 in. x .75 in. and only weighs 3.75 oz. And it holds 6 Esbit fuel bars inside when folded.

But your friend had a good find!

I have not used the pocket cooker but I turn my stero stove in to a wood burner it works just like the pocket cooker and works good I have cooked alot on it from tea to steaks . I made a removable bottom for it that way I can rake some coals from a camp fire and put it over the coals to cook or put the bottom in and build a fire right in it . It's about 12 oz..I also put a peice of coffee can from the back of the grill to haft way to the front leaving space on both side so that in can set asmall cup on it with out worring it tipping over found that out the hard way .And the streno stove doesn't cost as much .
