Free, free, I like free.....garden stuff.

As I have been cleaning up the yard, cutting back some viney stuff on the fence (from the neighbors side), and carring it away, so as to not let it spread.....stuff is really a PITA.
(yeah, yeah, I know,,,cordage...stuff is still a PITA, and any one that wants some can come and get it.)

Anyway, our city has a recycle center has compost, black dirt, well, just plain dirt, wood chips and such free for the haulin. And a place to drop off stuff you don't want.

I scored a bunch of wood chips for the flower beds after dumping off the viney stuff, just filled up the bags and buckets before leaving.

As it was the middle of the day, most everyone there was "older"...retired...or just not working.
Kinda funny as everyone was kinda loading stuff slow, with a lot of breaks.

One older couple had filled up a couple of plastic grabage cans with compost....only to realize that they couldn't load them filled up, back into the back of their van.

So, another guy (60's) and I helped them load them up,....... so I guess it takes 4-60's somethings to do the same as as 2 of 40's somethings...... LOL

I think everyone came home with their free stuff and took a nap.

A nap sounds good. You just can't be too careful. It's always good to get something free!

If the flower beds are up close to the house keep an eye out for termites in your wood mulch. Mulch stays damp and it's wood so they love it.

Yeah, that has always concerned me, only use it in the outlying beds.
I don't like cocoa mulch, poisonous to the dogs, don't like rocks, get all over, so wood chips it is....Away from the foundation.

Usually make my own, with a chipper, but didn't have enough this year.
All wood chips come from city tree cutting and trimming jobs.

I guess I would be concerned that a diseased trees may have been chipped up in the past...but lately they watch that pretty close.

I went to rubber mulch two years ago. So far so good. It's made out of recycled tires with 99% of the metal removed. They did a pretty good job because I've never found any metal. Looks good and doesn't attract insects.

Oh, one can almost never get enough free stuff! My favorite saying when it's free? "Gimme too much"!

Well, that not always the case..........Did have an "incident" here a numbers back.

Seems I was driving to work, tree cutting crew was down the street, cutting and chipping a large tree....So I stopped and asked about getting some chips.....You know...for free.

I gave them my address and agreed to a yard of chips..... Yeah right!...... Did I really think they were gonna measure the pile?

While at work, received a phone call from DW....Kinda hard to understand some of the new words she was making up (I think)....But it had to do with a truck load of wood chips blocking her car in the driveway.
So I just told her the wheel barrow was behind the garage, shovel hanging next to it....And hung up.

This is one time that even though a "little does a little good".....A LOT doesn't necessarily do a lot of good.

But, yeah I like free.
