After musing on it I think I could build a model of the jig that would be mountable, adjustable and benefit ppl with small work areas. They would just need the edge of a table to clamp it.

I watched the Green Pete videos when I started making knives and was thinking the same thing. I decided to go the power tool route, but making them without power tools has always been of interest to me.

When I started experimenting with this system i did just that. I did not work well at all! The blade would get too hot, the disc left deep scratches,you got undulations if you did not move at the same speed all the way across, and the ricaso would not stay smooth.

You would be surprised how quickly it goes with a cross-cut bastard file. Follow up with a smooth file and as you can see in the pics above a nice polished finish.
